AS Navigation AS is manufacturing a battery operated connection device, which provides the industry standard Wireless LAN 802.11b connection between the vessel’s AIS pilot plug and computer.
The ADQ1 is
developed based upon the specifications form the Dutch Pilot Organisation. It
includes smart batteries with 12 hour battery life, charging capability during
operation and precise battery indication.
Combining
the ADQ1 with any portable pilot electronic chart software package (e.g Qastor
from QPS), a compact solution for pilots is created. One of the major
advantages is the pilot does not need to bring anything more on the vessel than
a standard notebook computer running the desired software along with the ADQ1
to connect to the AIS pilot plug. ADQ1 gives the pilot maximum flexibility
during the conduction.
The ADQ1
passes all AIS information from the pilot plug to the software. This includes
the own ship’s position but also all other ships within AIS reception range.
The own ship and all received other ships will be displayed on the electronic
chart. With fully integrated AIS installations, the ship’s gyro, dGPS and rate
of turn indicator are connected to the AIS system. This information is also
made available at the pilot plug. The ADQ1 will provide all this information
wirelessly to the chart software where it will be used for display and
calculation purposes.
